- Sawyer County
Stone Lake is an unincorporated census-designated place (CDP) on the eastern shore of Stone Lake in northwestern Wisconsin, straddling the Sawyer County / Washburn County line; the Sawyer County portion lies in the Town of Sand Lake. Its 2020 Census population was small (about 186), and the community has no municipal government of its own, so local governance runs through the town boards (the Town of Sand Lake meets the second Monday of each month). Stone Lake's identity is built on Northwoods lake recreation and its cranberry marshes, anchored by the Stone Lake Cranberry Festival held the first Saturday of October, which draws tens of thousands of visitors to a community of a few hundred residents. Children are served primarily by the Hayward Community School District, and everyday services (post office, chamber, shops, and restaurants) cluster in a compact downtown between the regional hubs of Spooner and Hayward.
