Lac du Flambeau is an unincorporated community and U.S. Census Bureau census-designated place (CDP) inside the Town of Lac du Flambeau in Vilas County, Wisconsin, serving as the population and cultural core of the Lac du Flambeau Indian Reservation. The CDP had a 2020 census population of 1,845 (smaller than the surrounding town of 3,552) with a much younger median age and lower median income, reflecting its concentration of the reservation's residential and civic center. As a CDP it has no government of its own: the community is the seat of both the Town of Lac du Flambeau and the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa tribal government, whose enterprises (led by Lake of the Torches Resort Casino) form the largest employer in Vilas County. Ojibwe cultural heritage, a dense cluster of lakes, and summer tourism define its economy and seasonal rhythm.
