The Town of Hazelhurst is a civil town (unincorporated minor civil division) in Oneida County in Wisconsin's Northwoods, strung along US Highway 51 just south of Minocqua and branded 'the quiet side of the Northwoods.' Its 2020 Census population was 1,299 and Wisconsin's official January 1, 2025 estimate is 1,317, on about 30.9 square miles of land amid lakes and the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest. It is a lake- and forest-based tourism and lake-home community, governed by an elected town board (Chairman Theodore Cushing), served by the Minocqua J1 (MHLT) elementary district and Lakeland Union High School, and known for the Bearskin State Trail, Katherine Lake, the Kaubashine lakes, and the Willow Flowage. Population, geography, officials, schools, and Katherine Lake facts bind to primary state (DOA), Census Gazetteer, the town's own published roster, school-district, and DNR sources; ACS income and age figures, several recreation and access details, and the seasonal swing remain flagged where only secondary sources were reachable.
