Plum Lake Campground
Plum Lake Campground is a beautiful Northwoods amenity we love to explore that is great for a weekend adventure for the whole family!
About Plum Lake Campground
Plum Lake Campground has a few primitive and somewhat secluded campsites.
There is a water well but no water station — if you need to fill up your camper. However, Crystal Lake is not too far from the site. It is within the DNR’s camp network, so we filled up our water tank from there before boondocking in Plum Lake.
Trash and recycling stations are available right at the exit.
For remote workers who are looking for cell reception, this will be a good camp location for you. We did not need to use a cell phone booster to get service.
Also, there are a few family adventures to do around the area which makes it much more ideal for a weekend getaway trip!
The campsite has amazing access to the swimming area and a stream. It is rather relaxing to watch the flow of the water and listen to the loons sing!
Another great amenity is having access to the Heart of Vilas County Bike Trail.
The Sayner to St. Germain route is scenic. Some parts of the trail crossed gravel roads but for the most part, it was smooth pavement. There were parts that were rather hilly, though it was fun on the way down.
We took a detour on Big St. Germain road for a more scenic route. There was a nice beach and stream not too far off the main path.
We saw some turtles, deer, ducks, and other wildlife on the stream off the side of the road. We turned around when we reached the stream and headed back to the path.
The overall trip back to the campground was about 12 miles. It was a delightful adventure full of wildlife experience!
Plum Lake is also the home of the Plum Skitter water skiing team. If you are planning to watch the show, you may have to confirm with their admin or the Plum Lake camp host about the time of the show. There seems to be a discrepancy with their website and social media channel. The actual show started at 7 PM on Wednesdays in the Summer of 2021.
Overall, if you want to have a mini staycation with your family, it is another gem to checkout in our beautiful Northwoods we get to call home!
